And So It Goes

Well.... I certainly never anticipated the year ending the way it did for me...but as they say, life is what happens when you've made other plans.

So...let's take our final look back at what I thought was an excellent year.

Land Forms and Erosion

We had lessons on Earth's land forms; mountains, buttes, valleys, rivers, canyons, etc. Next, we did a study on the action of water upon the Earth. We had learned that water flows from the high places to the lower. So we built a mountain out of corn meal. Then we created a source of rain to drip on our mountain. As we observed, the steady drip of water eventually eroded our mountain, creating many of the landforms we had learned about.

For our Earth Day art, we created a circular painting to represent the Earth, then we included all of the landforms that we could! The results were very special.

Speaking of Earth Day...we had our Cheetah Walk. It was a great day...not too hot or cold. The children walked the path around our school and through our nature trail. Thank you to Mr. Kirby and volunteer helpers who improved the path with mulch donated by the Town of Steilacoom.

For Cinco De Mayo, we learned the Mexican Craft of tin etching and painting. We used our math workbooks as padding as we traced over our sun drawings onto the copper sheets. Finally we used permanent markers to add color. Hope you enjoyed them!

Reverse Field Trip
Just before Memorial Day weekend, we had a special treat from Mrs. Taylor and her family. They are Revolutionary War reenactors. They brought their knowledge to us. Mr. Taylor and former Cheetah, Jameson Taylor, showed us what it would be like if we were part of The Army. How to set up camp, how to take orders and drill. (yes...they are Redcoats. Somebody has to be, right?)
Mrs. Taylor told us what family life was like, and education.  Before we arrived, she taught her class many of the games of the period. Then we separated into groups and they taught us.
PS Mrs. Taylor was selected for a special week at Mt. Vernon in Virginia. She leaves tomorrow!

FIELD DAY!
We couldn't have asked for a better day! Thank you to all the family volunteers that showed up to help make this day special. I C U!

Two June Traditions
Every year, we look forward to the former Cherrydale Cheetahs, returning in their caps and gowns to show us what we are aiming towards. We got a special visit from Everett's sister!

Then it was Mileage Club Day! All spring, many of the children have been giving up their morning recess to track miles running or walking on the Mileage Club track. The highest achievers received a much prized T-shirt.

Beach Day
It's a Cherrydale tradition. The children walked down to the beach thanks to a wonderful group of volunteers and Mrs. Froehle who stepped in to lead for me. I met everyone down there. It was super cold to start but that didn't stop us. The sun came out just before lunch and it was perfect.

It was a great year. Please share these photos with your child. We looked at all the other blogs on Wednesday and they enjoyed remembering the year.
Thank you from the depths of my soul for trusting me with your children. We truly learned and grew together!  I hope you have the happiest of summers.

Please say hello next year. Tag, you're it!
Ms. Rae

I'll be in tomorrow in case anything important was left behind.
