SPRING!

I hope you all are well underway to a wonderful Spring Break. Here's what we've been up to!

Rainbows!

As a sign of good luck, we were greeted by a rainbow the week we returned from Winter Break.

On A COLD, COLD day, we hopped on buses and went to see Giraffes Can't Dance. After a bus SNAFU, we got there just in time to take our seats, and get settled in before the show started. It was a great day. Thanks volunteers and PTA!

Reports: We started learning how to write reports and informational writing. Here are our Groundhog Day, and President's Day Reports. Rainforest Reports and Riddles coming up after break!

February brought ALL THE THINGS. Groundhogs Day, Presdients Day, African American History Month, Valentine's Day and 100th Day.

Valentine's Day

Oh..and Leap Year too, to top off the month.

In March we learned about Holi, the Hindu celebration of Spring. Also called the Celebration of Colors, people toss colored powders on themselves and others. We drew and colored self portraits and then splattered them with watercolors. (Getting some on ourselves!)

Mr. Kirby's Mileage Club has begun!

During our 2nd recess, children have the option to run some laps on our nature trail. At the end of the year, top runners receive a special Mileage Club T-shirt ! Here are some of our class as they approach the lap counter.

We have been reading My Father's Dragon. In the story, Elmer comes upon a rhinoceros who is so sad that his beautiful tusk has become stained and brown. Elmer gives him toothpaste and a toothbrush and is able to escape while the rhino brushes. We tried an experiment with coffee stained hard boiled eggs. "It's working!" "Add more  toothpaste!" The children cried out to one another. But the best was when they asked to eat the eggs. For many it was their first hard boiled egg. What fun!

And that brings us up to date!

Enjoy your break!
